Urban Land Institute Nashville: Helping a city “Go Green” district by district
Challenge
Launch a grassroots initiative to reduce Nashville’s home energy consumption and encourage homeowners to undergo an energy evaluation.
Solution
Developed messaging platform and media materials to ensure consistency and led the media relations efforts for the launch and critical points.
Results
- Messages were used to educate the city about Go Green on the program website, in the media and at community meetings
- Successful launch of program in District 18 led to other council districts also adopting
- Go Green program spurred the mayor to create Nashville Energy Works, which garnered grants and recruited volunteers from Hands On Nashville to expand the program at no cost to low-income homeowners
